Government grants wind farm approval

E.ON has been given the go ahead for the construction of one of the UK’s largest offshore wind farms.

Wind Turbine

The government has granted planning approval for the construction of a huge new wind farm off the Yorkshire coast.

The Humber Gateway wind farm, will consist of 77 wind turbines and will generate enough energy to power 150,000 homes a year once completed.

E.ON has said that the wind farm will generate around 1000 jobs during the construction period, and 30 maintenance jobs once completed.

The approval was granted by the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC).

Humber Gateway becomes the fifth of E.ON’s offshore wind power projects in the UK. E.ON is also partner in the London Array Project, which will be the largest offshore wind farm in the country once built.

Construction is expected to start within 2 years, with a 3-5 year construction period.
