The Committee on Climate Change has advised the government to step up carbon reduction efforts in their latest report
The advisory body said that the country’s greenhouse gas emissions are not dropping fast enough to meet targets.
The CCC advised that a new range of carbon reduction tools is needed to achieve a faster rate of reduction.
The Committee on Climate Change said that greenhouse gas emissions rose by 3% in 2010.
“This is incompatible with the 3 percent annual average emissions reduction required to meet the first four carbon budgets. A significant acceleration in the pace of emissions reductions is therefore required,” the CCC said in a statement.
The UK coalition government recently set out the most ambitious climate targets in the world, with a goal to cut emissions by 80% on 1990 levels by 2050.
The CCC’s report found that while there have been improvements in some areas, insulation and heat preservation needs more focus.
The report suggested that loft and cavity wall insulation could prove a vital part of the UK’s push for energy efficiency.
