Today has seen the grand opening of the World’s largest offshore wind farm off Thanet, Kent.
The UK is now set to become the biggest generator of wind generated energy in the world.
The amount of energy generated by wind in the UK is now expected to rise to 1,300MW compared to 1,100MW in the rest of the entire world.
There are 100 massive wind turbines in the farm which stand 377ft tall from the sea to the top of the highest blade.
Swedish energy company Vattenfall have said the 100 turbines can power 240,000 homes.
The UK has embraced the option of wind power to help reduce nationwide carbon emissions, with plans for much larger new wind farms in progress.
There are now a total of 250 wind farms operational in the UK, with almost 3,000 turbines in total. There are around 1,000 turbines currently being built with planning approved for another 2,000.
The government is hoping to see the total percentage of energy generated from low carbon renewable resources to 30% within the next decade.
